About Me - countryimages
Little Red Barn

My passion is capturing Gods beauty in the world around me. That might mean chasing my grandkids around the yard hoping for a great candid moment or sitting for hours at a time in a kayak under a Bald Eagle nest.  My goal is the same, to show the beauty this country has to offer. Capturing the love between family, the unassuming innocence of a child's expression, an image of a rarely seen wild creature, or a spectacular landscape with amazing depth and color is what photography is all about for me. Sometimes it takes a lot of thought, preparation, hard work, and patience to capture the best images. And then there are the other times where it just takes a bit of luck. Either way, it is always fun for me. It's what I love to do.

I am a devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a wonderful family. I am also a fireman, builder, explorer, nature lover, and last but not least a photographer.   My passion for photography, which has now spanned 40 years, all started back in high school when I received an Olympus 35 mm camera as a Christmas gift. I read and studied everything I could on the subject of cameras and photography, practicing as much as I could. I learned how to develop and print my own pictures, so I set up a dark room. I created many black and white images that I processed and printed myself.  After many years of working with film cameras the digital camera came along.  I decided to transition into the world of digital photography about 2004, which brought with it a whole new set of challenges. But for me, digital photography has been a perfect medium to create art. I love to create things, especially with my camera. It is very rewarding to see an image in my mind and be able to create that image using the camera and some amazing software. Over the last 40 years, I have shot images that fall into many different genres. These include landscapes, nature, travel, portraits, journalism, weddings, and sports. Over the last few years though, a few of these categories have become clear favorites. They are nature, landscape, and people photography.

My wife Carol and I love being outside exploring, hiking, kayaking, camping and just simply enjoying the beauty that our country has to offer.  We call the Crawford area of central Texas home, living on what I frequently refer to as our wildlife refuge.   Central Texas has a lot to offer a nature photographer, for example a nesting pair of Bald Eagles I have photographed on Lake Waco for the past five years.  We travel around Texas staying in cities, state parks, lakes, and beaches searching for beautiful vistas and rarely seen wildlife to photograph.  I love the challenge of capturing an image of a very allusive rarely seen wild animal or being in the right place when the light is just right for a beautiful landscape.

I also love photographing people in a wide range of settings. Capturing a great candid image of person is as rewarding as photographing a wild animal in nature. I enjoy shooting athletes in their sport, kids (specifically my grand kids) being themselves playing and having fun, firefighters in action, and of course my family and friends. I've been photographing people for a long time. Starting about 25 years ago I decided I wanted to be a professional photographer, so the quickest way to make a living with a camera was to shoot weddings.  Still to this day when I tell someone I am a photographer, their first question is almost always "do you do weddings".  Well the answer is no, I do not do Weddings any longer.   For a variety of reasons I chose to concentrate on other areas of photography.   I do photograph people in studio and on location or at an occasional event.   When I photograph people at events, I always make the images available to purchase here on my site.  I am primarily trying to capture images that I love, with the goal of creating photographic art.

Photographing the beautiful people, landscapes, and wildlife our country has to offer is my dream.  So I will continue to capture the beauty of Central Texas and beyond.  We will be traveling to many locations such as National Parks, State Parks, Cities, Oceans to find my subjects to photograph as well. Our amazing country has a lot to see and photograph so it should be a fun journey. I hope you will stop by my site often to view my newest images and read about my latest adventure. You can also follow me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Country-Images/183791136990. If you would like to ask me a question or purchase a print you can send me an email by clicking the Contact Me tab above. I encourage everyone to get out there to enjoy the beauty in the world around you and remember to "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time" author unknown.
