Just a short drive from Austin there is one of the most beautiful places in Texas. Nestled in the Hill Country near the small community of Bee Cave, there is a natural swimming hole with a sand beach, a rock grotto, and a beautiful waterfall. This incredible place is known as Hamilton Pool Preserve.
My wife, Carol and I visited for the first time on in November. It has been on my list of places to visit for many years. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon without a reservation. We checked in at the guard shack, paid the entrance fee, parked the truck camper, and headed down the rocky trail with my camera gear in tow. The first glimpse of the 50 foot waterfall was spectacular. I climbed all over the place for nearly two hours taking shots from many different angles. We headed out to a nearby RV park for the night. We returned the next morning with our reservation in hand. Again we enjoyed our visit to this Texas gem, capturing many beautiful images of this gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole.
There of course were many images that I liked from the two days of shooting. But this was my favorite. I had been all over this place for two hours the first day and at least an hour and a half on this day, when I carefully climbed over some large boulders, squeezed in between others to get in position with my camera and tripod. I was shooting from under the limestone grotto looking out at the roaring falls on the left and the beach on the right. I positioned the rocks in the foreground left to lead the eye to the falls. The colors in the trees and in the pool were beautiful. I used a slow shutter speed to give the falls a smooth silky appearance. Overall a gorgeous scene and a really nice print to hang on the wall.
