Port Aransas - August 2015
Up close and personal with Boots, the fourteen foot gator that lives at Leonabelle Turnbull's Nature Center. This was a rare glimpse of this giant. My wife and I have been to this marsh many times but have only seen Boots and his mate, Stinky, a couple of times and only from a distance. On this day, we were lucky enough to see the Alligator couple swim right under where we were standing on the board walk. This guy decided to stop right under the board walk, with his head sticking out on one side and tail hanging out the other. He stayed there for a few minutes allowing the small group of onlookers to get some photos with their cell phones. One person in the group got a bit to close while getting a photo, causing this massive reptile to open his mouth and rear up crashing into the boardwalk with tremendous force. We all got a good sense and a new found respect for how powerful this great animal is. We watched for several minutes longer as he and his mate made their way into the tall marsh grass.
